Earth Hour... Have you switched OFF your lights?

Just my personal view of this Earth Hour event... Feel free to close this tab by clicking the little "x" if you think this is a piece of crap...

Earth Hour, have you switched off the lights?

Earth Hour... which is a worldwide event organized by WWF... that is held on the last saturday of March annually...an event that encourage people to turn off the non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change...

Off the lights for one hour... does it really help?

Does it really help when you just turn off the lights but have your computer and air-cond on? Does it really help when you turn off the lights for one hour every year just to support this event but have your lights, fan, air-cond and other electrical appliances turned on when not needed?

This event is meant to raise awareness about the need to take serious actions on climate change before something like "The Day After Tomorrow" or "2012" happens... One of the examples will be global warming... and global warming is related to carbon emissions (e.g. greenhouse gases)... and generating electricity and carbon emissions coexist... So by turning off the lights it will reduce the electricity usage and thus reducing the amount of electricity generated... which in turn help reducing carbon emissions...

I believe that many people in the world do support this event by turning off the lights...  However if people only turn off the lights for the sake of supporting this event but waste the electricity on the other non-"Earth Hour" day, what's the point of doing this? What if they on all the lights in the house even it's a bright sunny day when it's not "Earth Hour"? Does it help?

So, do support this event by turning off the lights... on top of that, do more... not only the lights... off your laptop, desktop, phone, etc. in this one hour... you won't die without Facebook, Tweeter, Whatsapp etc. etc. in this one hour... and not just for one hour... turn off whatever electrical appliances that you have when they are not used/needed... We might be tiny creatures in the Earth that can't do things that can done by Superman to save the world... but we can do our part... we can do the very least to help the earth... the world...
